On the desk

Nate's list this week, as he sent it to the show:

Hardin Local has coverage of Wednesday's SpringHill Suites renovations reveal as well as Thursday's airport reveal
Goodbye: USA Bridal, located at the bypass and Dixie intersection, has announced it will be closing December 30th

SpringHill Suites

SpringHill Suites sits near Heartland Mini Golf, and Nate gave directions the way only a local can: you can see it from Mulberry, and if you turn right you're at Heartland Mini Golf, turn left and you're at SpringHill. The renovated lobby was the first thing he talked about. "Their new lobby is fantastic," he said. "Love the lighting. I love the space." There is a fire pit and tables outside, and he called it very relaxing.

He toured one of the updated rooms, a double queen with a trundle under the couch that pulls out so the room can sleep six. That is hard to find, Nate said, and he would know: his wife, Courtney, is a travel agent, and even Disney hotel rooms usually top out at four. He sees it as an option for the sports teams that come to town. The room also had a walk-in closet, a big bathroom and a smart TV, and the hotel has an indoor pool. He liked the small touches, too, like shelving built over the AC units so that space holds your phone and bags instead of going to waste.

"It looks like a brand new hotel. It really does," Nate said. If you have someone coming to Elizabethtown, he said, he would send them there.

The airport's new terminal

Thursday, Nate was at the Elizabethtown Regional Airport, Addington Field, for the reveal of the expanded terminal. Rocky Adkins and Elizabethtown Mayor Jeff Gregory spoke, and Ann, Roger and Ken Lawson will run the building. Nate said there was a huge crowd for it.

Asked what changed most, he pointed to the space. "It's not near as cramped," he said, and the new glass is "gorgeous." He said the building gives the community a way to make a great first impression when important visitors fly in.

He also had an answer for the online commenters asking why the county needs a new terminal with no major airline flights. "It's not always Delta, United, Southwest, American," Nate said. The airport is where people do their flight training and get their hours, where helicopter time and skydiving happen, and where deliveries come in for the hospitals and the factories. It is mostly business traffic, he said, including people coming in and out for Fort Knox and the factories around the Ring Road area. And he said the flat ground around it makes it a great spot for skydiving. "Just because you don't see a major 747 doesn't mean that the airport doesn't have an importance in our area."

Nate said the runway has been expanded and that a land acquisition was discussed. He would not call anything immediate, but he said to look for more news out of the Elizabethtown airport down the road.

Goodbye to USA Bridal

USA Bridal is in the building where the bypass and Dixie meet, the same building with the cat cafe. Nate said it will be closing December 30th, so there are still several weeks left. If you have a 2027 wedding coming up, or you are in a wedding party, he suggested reaching out to them before then.

Three grand openings

Rachelle Danielle Rose Boutique opens Saturday, November 7th, on Ring Road near Pavilion and Cool Springs. Nate placed it in the small white building with Liberty Tax.

Buckle opens Monday, November 9th, at City Center, the former Towne Mall. "I know people are excited about this one," Nate said. He has seen it from the outside, said it looks great and takes up two storefronts, and it sits on the same side of the promenade as American Eagle and Bath & Body Works. He has met the manager, and he said she is very excited.

And Sweet Spot Donuts & Coffee opens at 230 Buford Lane at 5 a.m. Thursday, November 12th. "Y'all better get up early," Nate said. He admitted he will not be first in line. He expects good business from the medical traffic nearby.
