Tolle Totum closes its storefront, but not its business
Tolle Totum was a small downtown Elizabethtown business run by Kirsten White, a certified naturopathic practitioner. Nate described it as offering an acupressure facial and wellness products "designed for everybody." She announced earlier in the week that she was closing the storefront.
Nate said he followed her and shared her posts, and he watched how hard she worked. "She was online every single day," he said. She made posts, showed up at events and set up tables and booths. "It's hard to gain ground and gain traction," Nate said, and it seemed to him that more people realized what they had after she was gone than before.
Then came the turn. On Friday morning she announced she is going mobile. Nate pointed out that brick and mortar overhead can be expensive, and going mobile is a different way to run a business. "It was sad to see the brick and mortar close, but it's good to see that she's still in business," he said, and people will still be able to learn what it is all about.
City Center signs are up
The new City Center sign is up, blue and white, along with a new directory sign. Nate said Phil has the photos and he will post them. "We'll miss you, rest in peace. You lived a good life, 40 years," he said of Towne Mall, and he noted the name City Center was the plan from the beginning, when the project was announced. He saw the sign out on Dixie and called it amazing: clean, pretty, bright and welcoming.
JD Sports, which Nate described as "Finish Line 2.0," opened Saturday on the Spencer's side of the property, and Visionworks is on that same side.
Openings this week
Firehouse had said it would return Monday, October 12, but a worker posted that it has been delayed, so Nate said we will find out. He is hoping it opens soon, because Courtney wants her meatball sub back.
For chicken lovers, especially anyone out by Sacred Heart, Zaxby's by Sacred Heart opens Monday, October 12. Nate thinks there will be door prizes and said he will probably be out there sometime.
Splatter & Shatter opens Tuesday, October 13, downtown, across from the Duvall building and down from Social Food Hall, around the corner from the horse mural. Nate called it "our first rage and paint room," and he helped get it launched and run a giveaway. Rachel joked that she has plenty of frustrations to work out. Nate said you will see his face in some pictures and maybe some videos as he tests it out. Some rooms are themed, he noted, such as a bad day at the office or a bad breakup, and the idea is to get it out and feel better.
Beignets & Brew is aiming for December
Nate reached out to Beignets & Brew, the pink and white shop at the Shops at Pear Orchard. They are aiming for December. Nate said he was hoping for before Black Friday, so "not thrilled," but he called it a cute little shop. He has seen their menu, which includes chicken and waffles and churros.
Plenty to do
Nate closed on his favorite theme. He listed throwing axes at Extreme, go-karts at Malibu Jack's, all the golf courses, and Skateland coming back to life. "I love having all this stuff," he said, and it is nice to watch Etown and Hardin County grow. If someone says there is nothing to do here, his answer is to get out more and look at the weekly events, with something happening every day through October 31.
