109 N Mulberry German-American Café — now open in downtown Elizabethtown

There is a new flavor downtown, and it is one you do not see every day around here. 109 N Mulberry, a brand new German-American café, just held its soft opening in the heart of downtown Elizabethtown, and Hardin Local was on it right away.

It comes from Janine Washle, the chef you may know across Kentucky as "The Flavor Queen," and it blends classic German plates with down-home Appalachian comfort food, side by side on the same menu.

Here is a taste of what is inside this report:

  • The full story of who is behind 109 N Mulberry and the German-meets-Appalachian concept
  • The complete menu — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — with the dishes worth driving downtown for
  • An honest, gracious look at the soft opening (the good, and the day-one kinks)
  • Coming soon: the full Experienced Eater reaction from Britten and Michele, added right here after it airs

Here is the honest reason: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube decide who actually sees our posts, and lately they bury local pages like ours unless we pay them. We do not think your local news should depend on somebody else's algorithm.

This is a Hardin Local collaboration: reported through Business Buzz with Nate Bryan, with the taste test from The Experienced Eater, Britten and Michele McDowell. Details come from the café's published menus and our own visit; menus, prices and hours can change.
