Summary

Jon O'Brien and Rachel Brantingham tag-teamed the week of Monday, November 2 through Sunday, November 8. Election Day leads it off on Tuesday, then the week builds to a country concert downtown, a Veterans Day parade in Vine Grove, and two youth soccer events that will fill the Elizabethtown Sports Park all weekend.

It ends on a quieter note, with a Service of Remembrance on Sunday, and there are two public meetings during the week for anyone who wants to see local government up close. The full list is on the Hardin Local this-week page.

"So we have a big week ahead," Jon said, and he brought Rachel in to help him run it. All times are Eastern Standard Time, since the clocks fell back on Sunday, November 1.

Tuesday is Election Day

The big one is Tuesday, November 3. Polls are open from 6 AM to 6 PM, and you can vote at any vote center in the county. Phil Taul walked through the Hardin Local voter guide earlier in the show, so look there for what's on your ballot.

Friday: Confederate Railroad, and an early Christmas

Friday the 6th, Confederate Railroad plays the Historic State Theater in downtown Elizabethtown at 7 PM. The hosts were firm about tickets: buy them through the theater's box office, and only there. "There's not a resale site, so don't be scammed," Rachel said. The hosts pointed back to the Diamond Rio show, when tickets turned up on resale sites and some people got burned.

Rachel also snuck in one of her own. The Brantingham Christmas is Friday, November 6, from 6 to 9 PM at The House on Helm. She said the early date is on purpose: it gives families time to get their photos taken for Christmas cards, since the photographers need about two weeks to process them. There will be crafts for the kids, and Santa is coming from the North Pole. "I know it's weird to be already talking about Christmas," she said, but the goal is to kick off the Christmas excitement in the community.

Saturday: the Vine Grove Veterans Day Parade and Car Show

Saturday the 7th, downtown Vine Grove hosts its Veterans Day Parade and Car Show, with an event window of 10 AM to 5 PM. The parade start time isn't posted yet, so check with the city before you head out.

All weekend: soccer takes over the Sports Park

The Elizabethtown Sports Park is going to be packed. The Kentucky Youth Soccer Commonwealth Cup, the state's recreational youth soccer championship, is Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th, and the KGF E-town Super Showcase runs Friday through Sunday. Rachel said she knows a lot of families with kids in soccer, and this is a huge week for them.

That means extra traffic and fuller restaurants all weekend. The hosts' advice: mobile order might be your friend, and be patient with the people serving you. "They're taking care of everybody as well as they can."

Sunday: a Service of Remembrance

After a busy week, Sunday the 8th brings something quieter. Hosparus Health of Central Kentucky holds its Service of Remembrance at First Presbyterian Church on Pear Orchard Road. Ornament making starts at 2 PM and the service is at 3 PM. They are asking for an RSVP by Wednesday, November 4, at 502-992-0772.

Local government up close

If you want to see your local government at work, Vine Grove City Council meets Monday the 2nd at 6 PM, and the Radcliff Planning Commission meets Thursday the 5th at 5 PM. The meeting room for Radcliff isn't posted, so check the city's website before you go.
