Summary

Jon O'Brien and Grafton Sizemore split the week of Monday, October 19 through Sunday, October 25, and Grafton called it pretty much wall to wall. Nearly everything lands on Friday the 23rd and Saturday the 24th, from a historically accurate ghost walk downtown to haunted trails, haunted houses and trunk or treats in Elizabethtown and Radcliff.

If you want one pick, Jon's is the Ghost Walk. If you want scares, four haunted trails and houses are open this weekend. And if you have kids, Saturday has a run in the morning and trunk or treats in the evening.

The segment opened with plenty of energy, and Grafton confessed that when he and Rachel tag-teamed events last week, he was told he had to dance. "That was the only time I've danced on this show," he said. Then the two of them got into a week built almost entirely around Halloween.

Wednesday, October 21

Wayback Wednesday at the State Theater: Fatal Attraction. Proof that something happens on a weeknight, too. The State Theater's Wayback Wednesday shows Fatal Attraction at 11 AM and again at 7 PM.

Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24

Hardin County Playhouse Ghost Walk. This is one of Jon's favorites. The Hardin County Playhouse leads ghost walks through downtown Elizabethtown from 7 to 10 PM both nights. "Ghost stories of downtown, historically accurate," Jon said. He used to help guide them: a guide takes you from each stop to the next, and Jon wore a hood like a Grim Reaper, never talked, and just pointed to the next spot. He is not sure they still do it that way, which is why it is his pick for the weekend. The price is $5. "It's a steal," Jon said.

Spooky Movies at the State. Those same two nights are the last weekend of Spooky Movies at the State downtown: Casper on Friday and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken on Saturday. Grafton admitted he had never seen the second one, or heard of Don Knotts, which Jon could not let go. Jon's description: an older comedy in the same clean, good vein as The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Incredible Mr. Limpet, fine for kids and still good for adults. "But media is timeless, right?" he said.

Sinister Tombs. Friday and Saturday, the box office is open from 7:30 to 11:45 PM, so you can buy a ticket and check it out. Jon said Phil would stay away. Phil said he would rather be one of the scare actors.

Dark Hallow Creek Haunted Trail. A nod to the north end of the county: the haunted trail in West Point runs Friday and Saturday nights. General admission is $25.

Friday, October 23

Food Truck Friday in Vine Grove. As it has been the past couple of weeks, Food Truck Friday is at Optimist Park in Vine Grove from 5 to 8 PM. Grab some grub before the weekend gets rolling.

Suites and Treats at She & Co. Salon and Suites. On West Dixie in Elizabethtown, listed to start at 4. You collect Halloween sweets suite to suite, each suite has its own theme, and you vote for your favorite. It is a tongue twister, and the hosts proved it on air.

Saturday, October 24

Panther Cheer Halloween Spirit Run. Get your running in before you run from the spookies. Saturday morning brings a 5K, with kids doing a 2.5K, at Elizabethtown High School's Panther Stadium. Costumes are encouraged.

Hondaween at Hardin County Honda, 4 to 7 PM. A drive-through trunk or treat with decorated trunks. "I know people decorate their stuff ridiculously for this," Jon said, so if you are not going house to house, check it out.

Trunk or Treat at Ansar Plaza, Radcliff, 5 to 7 PM. On South Dixie in Radcliff, per the organizer: dress up in your costumes for a food truck, games and candy, all hosted by Radcliff's Best Martial Arts.

Grafton had a confession about all of these trunk or treats. "We had to work for our candy back in the day," he said, remembering going door to door and putting on another mask to hit the same house twice. "It's fun, good, safe stuff, so definitely get on that."

Masonic Haunted House at Morrison Lodge, 7 to 10 PM. If you want the old-school haunted house feel, this one is at Morrison Lodge on North Mulberry in Elizabethtown, and it is another cheap one at $5. Grafton will not be there, but if it is your thing, go.

The Last House on Springhurst, opening 8 to 10 PM. A free one with real scares. The backyard haunted trail in Elizabethtown opens Saturday and runs nightly through November 1, so you can hit it any night after that. Jon's take: you are actually out in nature, and it sounds fun.

Jon's pick

Grafton asked Jon to choose one thing on Saturday. "It's going to be that haunted tour, the tour downtown," Jon said. He wants to see what they still do and whether it has changed since he was involved.
