Jon went straight to the weekend.
Friday, October 9
Faith & Blue 5K. The Elizabethtown Police Department is hosting a free 5K at the Elizabethtown Sports Park. Sign-in is at 5 PM and the race starts at 6:30 PM. There will be donuts afterward. The hosts joked about carb loading, and debated whether you carb up before or after a 5K. Jon said it is great that the police department is making it a free event for anyone who wants to join in.
The Nightmare Before Christmas. The State Theater is showing spooky movies, and this one is on Friday, October 9. Jon called the theater a wonderful spot and praised its architecture, saying it was repainted to look the way it did back in the day.
Saturday, October 10
Tails and Tatas 5K, 8 AM. It starts at Swope Toyota and goes through Freeman Lake Park. Dogs are welcome. Registration is $25, a kids' mile is $10, and it benefits the Baptist Health Foundation in Hardin County. Jon admitted his own dog does not know how to run alongside him.
Fall Vendor Fest, 10 AM to 7 PM. At the Pritchard Community Center, run by Nolin River Wildlife.
Hardin County EMS Trunk or Treat, 4 to 7 PM. Emergency vehicles, first responders, construction equipment, motorcycles and candy, all free. Jon said to take the kids, and that more details are on the Hardin Local events page.
Masonic Haunted House, 7 to 10 PM. Tickets are $5. The tour goes through some of the history of the Masonic Temple and what the building was before. Jon said there was a dentist's office in there, and that there may be some bad spirits from a dental appointment gone wrong.
If you can only do one
When Rachel asked which event to take the boys to, Jon gave two: The Nightmare Before Christmas, "just a great fun time," or Tails and Tatas if you like dogs and running and want to get some energy out. One host also said, out of respect for the police community, that they want to make sure the Faith & Blue 5K turnout is huge.
