Summary
Jon O'Brien stepped into a stacked week. From an ongoing scavenger hunt at Freeman Lake Park to a Derby-themed party at the Brown-Pusey House, the calendar runs steady all week and explodes on Saturday. The Member Medical DPC ribbon cutting Wednesday is a public event with food trucks. Friday's slate is Rachel's Investor Collective Spring Summit during the day, then live music at three venues that night.
Saturday is the headline. Jon counted off ten events spread across Elizabethtown and Radcliff — and ended by bartending his own birthday party at Bourbon Barrel Tavern Saturday night.
For Hardin County residents, this is the week to get out. Derby Festival kicks off in Louisville the same weekend, and our local lineup is matching the energy.

When Jon O'Brien sat down to walk through the week, the table was already set for a packed Saturday — and he had a birthday balloon at his shoulder to prove it. Friday April 17 is both the day Jon completes his 75 Hard challenge and his birthday, and Saturday April 18 ended up being the kind of day where a smart Hardin County resident has to pick a lane.
Before any of that, though, the week has a public-event opener. Member Medical DPC's Ribbon Cutting and Member Celebration lands Wednesday April 15 from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the practice's office at 1230 Woodland Drive, Suite 110 in Elizabethtown. The Hardin County Chamber of Commerce does the official ribbon at noon. Five food trucks — Bluegrass Meats & Catering, Sam's Gyros, Bussin Bites, Lil Cheezers, and Unbridled Grounds — set up early. Members eat lunch on the house. Anyone else who shows up is welcome and tagging `#ILoveMemberMedical` puts you in the drawing for prizes. Member Medical is this week's episode sponsor and we covered their story in three segments throughout the show.
Wednesday also brings two showings of The Bodyguard (1992) at the Historic State Theater Complex on West Dixie Ave — 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM, rated R. Jon's nostalgia hit on this one — the soundtrack was one of his first Columbia House CDs back in the day.
Thursday April 16 splits between Kalon Health's Derby Prep Party (9 AM to 5 PM, free, injectable and skincare specials) and an Educational Retirement Workshop at the Hardin County Chamber from 6 to 7:30 PM. The workshop is free, focused on TSP and 401(k) questions, with policy reviews, coffee, donuts, and a door prize on offer. Seating is limited.
Friday is The Investor Collective: Spring Summit at The Everly, Rachel Brantingham's event. It runs 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM with lunch included. Two investors are flying in — Seth Schemahorn (distressed deals) and Holly Haw, who built a portfolio cash-flowing over $10,000 a month in under five years after selling close to 1,000 homes. Registration is at pci.jotform.com/form/260814925620153 and seats are limited. Friday night opens up to live music at three venues: Casey & Romy at Social Food Hall at 7 PM, Autonomous at Bourbon Barrel Tavern, and Antwan Bailey at Cosmic Golf at 8:30 PM.
Then Saturday hits.
The 9th Annual Autism SpectRUN 5K at Elizabethtown Sports Park sets the early tone — registration at 7:30 AM, race at 8:30 AM, $30 entry that includes a finisher medal, kids nine and under free, all of it benefiting Camp TESSA. Cars & Coffee at Hardin County Honda runs 10 AM to 2 PM on N Dixie Highway, all makes and models welcome. Spring Fling Bazaar opens at Heavenbound Baptist Church at 10 AM with crafts and community vendors. Rock the Block at The Blue Door on West Poplar takes the afternoon — 2 to 7 PM, $10 per family, with Dylan West performing 4 to 7, plus Bussin Bites food truck, community yoga, handmade goods, and a flower bar. Proceeds support the Blue Door Creative Fund.
Radcliff joins the slate with Victory Martial Arts Spring Fling from 4 to 7 PM — free entry, food trucks, face painting, kids' activities, raffle. At The House on Helm, the Survive to Thrive Art Auction presented by Metalsa opens its preview at 4:30 PM and goes live at 6:00 PM. The Scudder Sports Round Robin Tournament at Bluegrass Sportsplex runs 5 to 9:30 PM — 4-on-4 co-ed, 10-team limit. Ron Jones Jazz Duo at The Straight and Narrow lands 6:30 to 9:30 PM — Jon flagged that the room is small and reservations are highly recommended.
And then there's the big one: First Turn at the Brown-Pusey at 7 PM. Jon called this out as the one to circle. "I think this First Turn at the Brown-Pusey House on Saturday night is going to be one of the events to really go to. I think it's a really good event," he said on air. Derby-themed cocktails, food, live music, derby attire encouraged. Tickets via Ticketleap. Kristen and Brandon are bartending — Brandon's the regular at Bourbon Barrel Tavern, and Jon's plug was simple: "Go make him make all the drinks in the world. He doesn't get to make enough anymore."
Saturday night closes with Nothing To Some live at Bourbon Barrel Tavern — which is also where Jon ends up bartending his own birthday party. The bash is the day after his actual birthday but he's working anyway. "Work on your birthday — that is real adulting right there," Jon said. The whole table told the audience the same thing: if you're out Saturday night, swing by BBT and tell Jon happy birthday in person. Watered Down Whiskey plays Cosmic Golf at 8 PM the same night.
Sunday winds it down with the 2026 King's Royal Event #3 at Strike & Spare B&B Lanes at 10 AM — $60 entry, four games of qualifying — and Go Fly a Kite Day at Freeman Lake Park from 2 to 4 PM. Jon's takeaway on the kite event was simple: not enough kids today have seen Mary Poppins.
When Scott asked Jon for the one pick for the introvert in the audience, Jon kept it on brand: "Come see me for a birthday party. Chad's the lead guitarist for Nothing To Some. Come on out — I'll make you in a cocktail."
If you only have time for one Saturday event, Jon's vote is the Brown-Pusey. If you only have time for one piece of community-feel-good action, the SpectRUN benefits a great cause and lets the kids tag along free. And no matter what you do — wish Jon a happy birthday this weekend.
