Summary

Valentine's Day on a Saturday only comes around once in a while, and Jon O'Brien made the most of it with one of the fullest events rundowns of the season. As host Rachel Brantingham put it heading into the segment, "Valentine's Day on a Saturday — that's a loaded weekend! Something for couples, singles, kids, everybody."

Jon walked the calendar from Tuesday through Sunday, mixing date-night classics — Couples Mahjong, a Valentine's luncheon, glass painting, cocktail classes — with family-friendly options and a packed Saturday that included a 5K, a pet adoption event, and live music across town. He also folded in personal recommendations, pointing viewers toward Mud Puddle Pottery (in the old Busy Bee location) as a fun date night the whole family can do.

Host Rachel Brantingham added an event of her own from the Red Brick Cottage — a Girlfriends Gala & Gowns Mini Gala on Friday evening celebrating the store's newly remodeled front room. Whether you're planning a couples night, a family outing, or a girls' night, this Valentine's week has it covered.

With Valentine's Day landing on a Saturday in 2026, Jon O'Brien had a genuinely loaded week to share — and he moved through it day by day, with plenty of personality along the way.

Tuesday: couples mahjong

The week kicks off at The Straight and Narrow (125 E Dixie Ave, Elizabethtown) with Couples Mahjong 101 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. "So you were doing mahjong by yourself before? Now it's couples time," Jon joked.

Wednesday: a Fort Knox luncheon

Wednesday brings a Valentine's Day Luncheon at Saber & Quill (1118 E Chaffee Ave, Fort Knox) from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. It's $18 for food, a photo booth, and fellowship, with guest speaker Dr. Mark Clark. Tickets are required in advance.

Thursday: cookies and crochet

Thursday offers two cozy options. The XOXO Heart Cookie Platter Decorating Class runs 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce (111 W Dixie Ave) — "right across the street from me," Jon noted — a fun thing to do with a couple or with the gal pals. Cats & Crochet, also 6:00 to 8:00 PM, is at Lucy & Oscar's Cat Cafe (1201 N Dixie Ave). "That's a fun little time crocheting," Jon said.

Friday: a packed pre-Valentine's slate

Friday the 13th is busy. Parents Night Out at Little PlayLand (2408 Ring Rd) runs 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with pizza, crafts, a movie, games, and music while the kids are looked after. As Jon and the crew were quick to note, kids need to be fully potty trained, and there's a cost — sign-up required.

The Valentine's Dance Night at LifePoint Church of Elizabethtown (401 W Poplar St) runs 6:15 to 8:30 PM, with a Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dance, photo booth, crafts, and face painting. Semi-formal or Sunday best.

For something different, the Ancestral Trails Historical Society holds its monthly meeting at 7:00 PM at Elizabethtown Community & Technical College — a free meeting and presentation titled "Maggie, the Indentured Servant." And Galentine's Glass Painting runs 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Waters Edge Winery (114 S Mulberry St). "That should be a fun time," Jon said.

Saturday: Valentine's Day itself

Saturday is the marquee day. The Cupid Shuffle 5K starts at Freeman Lake Park, with packet pickup at 7:30 AM and the race at 8:30 AM — Jon mused on whether he might run it himself, tutu and all.

From there: Cookies for Cuties at Laker on Dixie (226 W Dixie Ave) from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; a Valentine's Adoption Event at Feeders Supply (1610 Ring Rd) from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM; and a second Valentine's Parents Night Out, this one at Birdie's Studio (334 E Dixie Ave) from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with dinner, crafts, games, and themed fun (registration required).

For the grown-ups, Heartbreak & Hangovers takes over the Upstairs Overlook at Social Food Hall (110 S Main St) at 6:00 PM — adults-only, "dark and moody cocktails and music." Intimacy Begins in the Kitchen, a fine dining experience at Clean Good Eats (1483 N Dixie Blvd, Suite B, Radcliff), also runs at 6:00 PM. The Spot Bar & Grill (139 Tiptop Rd, Vine Grove) throws a Mardi Gras & Valentine Party at 7:00 PM with masks and beads provided and red beans & rice, gumbo, and hurricanes on the menu. "If you like a good hurricane, they will hook you up," Jon said.

Music caps the night: The Strayz live at Cosmic Golf (850 Pine Valley Dr) from 8:00 to 11:00 PM, and Love & Legacy with 90s R&B star ROME at Phillips Grove (58 Ernest R Kouma Blvd, Radcliff) running 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.

Sunday: a softer landing

Sunday eases off the gas. The Marriage Fight Club Conference at Restoration Church (1352 N Logsdon Pkwy, Radcliff) runs 11:15 AM to 2:15 PM, hosted by Carl U. Smalls II — "if you if you really didn't work everything out on Valentine's Day," Jon offered with a grin. And Cupid's Cocktail Class at Social Food Hall runs 4:00 to 6:00 PM, where couples can "learn how to make a drink together... that you can make at home for your sweetheart."

A couple of personal picks

Jon couldn't resist a recommendation: Mud Puddle Pottery, in the old Busy Bee location, where you paint a piece of ceramics and pick it up after it's fired. "It is a fun little date night or anybody can do it kind of thing," he said, having gone twice the weekend before.

And host Rachel Brantingham added an event of her own — the Red Brick Cottage's Girlfriends Gala & Gowns Mini Gala, Friday from 5 to 8 PM. "It is the grand opening of our newly remodeled front room," Rachel said, with cupcakes from The Gathering Bakery, a little bubbly, and a chance to "come see what we have and how we're helping so many women in such a wonderful way."

Loaded weekend, indeed. Whatever your version of Valentine's looks like, Hardin County has a place for it.
