Summary
With the thermometer reading 11 degrees the morning of taping, Jon O'Brien leaned into the assignment: where can you go this week to have some fun and get out of the bitter cold? His answer was a packed six-day slate that runs from brewery trivia and karaoke to an ELO tribute concert, an indoor family skate party, and a Sunday mahjong lesson.
Tuesday and Thursday do the heavy lifting. Tuesday gives you trivia at two breweries, Twofer Tuesdays at Revival, and StrEAT Kitchen's month-long burger specials. Thursday piles on Ladies' & Gents' Night at Impellizzeri's, trivia at Cosmic Golf, the Auntie Anne's pretzel truck at Rural King, and a Camp Hendon dinner at Capri's — a cause close to Jon, who shared that he has been a type one diabetic for more than half his life. The weekend rewards families with the free-admission Family Skate Party and a free JD Shelburne show, then winds down Sunday with football, brunch, and a mahjong course.

If the cold has you wanting to stay home, Jon O'Brien has a counter-argument: there is plenty to do this week, and most of it is indoors. "It's bitter cold. Where can we go to have some fun?" Rachel asked as she handed off the segment. "We've got plenty of places to have some fun," Jon answered — and then proved it across six days.
Tuesday: trivia, twofers, and burgers
The week opens with trivia everywhere. "We got all the trivia that you can handle," Jon said, pointing to the Flywheel Brewing Trivia League and Joe's Game Night at HubHaus, both running their games on Tuesday. Revival Vintage Spirits has Twofer Tuesdays — "if you want to warm up a little, drink, they got a beer and a shot for a good price." And all month long, StrEAT Kitchen has burger specials going, including a new patty-melt-style burger and a mushroom-and-spinach double cheeseburger that caught Jon's eye. "That looks really good. I may have to try that today," he said.
Wednesday: bingo and karaoke
Wednesday brings Boombox Bingo: Rock Edition to Social Food Hall (110 S Main St) from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, along with Wednesday Karaoke with Sammi-P and a pool tourney at the Spot Bar-N-Grill in Vine Grove — a recurring every-Wednesday fixture. "If you like karaoke and you're in that area, make sure you just head out to the spot every Wednesday," Jon said.
Thursday: the busiest night of the week
Thursday is stacked. Story Hour for all ages runs at Birdwhistell Books — "take the kids down there, they read a book, buy a book, check out the record store next door," Jon said, noting the shop also carries CDs, cassettes, DVDs, posters, and merch. Impellizzeri's hosts Ladies' & Gents' Night with half-price cocktails and select appetizers, and Jon was quick to point out it is for everyone: "It's ladies and gents, not just the ladies get the discounts, which is also nice." Karaoke Night follows at Bourbon Barrel Tavern with DJ Jimmy. Don't Have A Clue Trivia kicks off at Cosmic Golf at 7:00 PM — reserve your spot at tinyurl.com/Cosmic-Trivia. And the Auntie Anne's pretzel truck parks at Rural King Supply from 11 AM to 6 PM.
Thursday also brings a cause close to Jon's heart: a T1D Parents Dinner Out for Camp Hendon at Capri's Italian Restaurant (212 Commerce Dr), 6:30 to 9:00 PM, with RSVPs going to Rhiannon Reams at 270-734-3618. "T1 means type one diabetes," Jon explained. "I've been type one diabetic for more than half my life now, so it is something that is close to my heart." He encouraged anyone connected to a child with T1D to RSVP and come out.
Friday: an ELO tribute and a paint party
Friday's headliner is Turn to Stone: A Tribute to ELO at the Historic State Theater Complex (209 W Dixie Ave), 7:00 PM, with tickets at thestate270.showare.com. For a craftier night, ARTrageous Adventures with Rita in Glendale hosts a Valentine Door Hanger Paint Party from 5:30 to 8:30 PM ($35). And the Spot Bar-N-Grill runs Friday Karaoke with Sammi-P plus a dance with Baby-T, 8:00 to 9:00 PM.
Saturday: free skating and free music
Saturday has something for every kind of crowd. The Barony of Five Oaks holds a Park Althing at Freeman Lake Tennis Complex at 1:30 PM, and the Mulberry Players hold season auditions at Studio One-Eleven from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The standout for families is the Family Skate Party at Hardin County SkateLand in Radcliff (4:30–6:30 PM) — where the first 100 people get in free. Rachel jumped on that one immediately: "I have a six and nine year old and they would die over that," she said. "What a great deal, and what a fun thing to do indoors — you're out of the freezing cold, but also you're getting exercise." Saturday night, JD Shelburne plays a free live show at Cosmic Golf at 8:00 PM, with a sponsor stepping up to cover it.
Sunday: an easy wind-down
Sunday keeps things relaxed. Flywheel Brewing hosts both beer yoga and a Blue Door Birdhouse Workshop. Impellizzeri's runs NFL Sundays with $5 pitchers all day — "anything on draft is five dollars," Jon noted. J.R. Neighbors serves its Southern Sunday Brunch, the Spot has Sunday Football from 1 to 2 PM, and Revival Vintage Spirits offers a Mahjong 101 course from 3 to 6 PM ($75). "This is an interesting thing that I haven't seen around the area in a while," Jon said of the mahjong session. "That seems interesting. I've never played it."
A freezing week outside, sure — but a warm one inside if you know where to go.
