Elizabethtown Police Department Press Release:
“Around 230 this afternoon, units from the Elizabethtown Police Department and Hardin County EMS responded to the 100 block of Lakeview Drive to check on the welfare of an elderly female who had allegedly attempted to harm herself.
When units arrived, they were initially unable to make contact. Eventually, units made entry into the residence with the assistance of a family member, and found that the female subject had locked herself in a bedroom. As Units attempted to communicate with her, a single gunshot was fired through the bedroom door in the direction of the units standing outside. Units retreated out of the residence and called for backup, and the special response and crisis negotiation team were called out.
After a perimeter was established around the house, Kentucky State Police responded to the scene with two mobile tactical/surveillance robots. Attempts to establish communications with the female subject inside were unsuccessful. Eventually, a second gunshot was heard inside the residence. The two mobile robots made entry to the residence, and eventually the Elizabethtown Special Response team made entry and recovered the female subject inside, who had suffered a single apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the neck. She was transported to UL Hospital by Air Methods, and her condition is unknown at this time. No first-responders were injured during the incident, and no criminal charges are anticipated at this time.”
