A STARTUP GARDEN CELEBRATION – Boundary Oaks Distillery – Radcliff, Kentucky

Entrepreneurs rejoice! You are in the land of opportunity when you think about starting and growing your business right here in the Heartland of Kentucky. Tonight we celebrate three momentous occasions. We join with other like-minded entrepreneurs around the world to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week while also celebrating on a local level, the success of our own Startup Garden events for one year. But—the really big cause for jubilation is the recent announcement that our Elizabethtown-Ft. Knox metropolitan area was recently recognized as the NUMBER 1 MSA in the country for startup growth!  And if that’s not exciting enough, our neighbor and regional KY Innovation Network partner, Bowling Green, was named the #3 region!!

Many positive influences can be attributed to the successful creation of an entrepreneurial culture in our region. But, having successful local entrepreneurs giving of their time and talent and serving as mentors to startups is certainly a huge factor. The banners around the room reflect the wisdom and drive of so many that have “left a trail” for us to follow. In a region that has already been honored to produce four Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year, we take pride in our innovativeness.

In addition, having a network of local venture capitalists eager to invest in local startup ventures has proven invaluable. Access to local investment dollars from members of the Lincoln Trail Venture Group makes all the difference. With a vision of not only seeing a return on their investment, but creating jobs, this group is a strategic partner to many startups.

Other key players in the success story include the KY Innovation Network, the local SBDC offices, the KY Career Center, the local Area Development District offices, our educational institutions, local economic development offices and the Chambers of Commerce. All have worked in partnership for many years to promote and assist small businesses in their development.

Let us celebrate then turn ideas into reality.
