Pursuit leads to accident and DUI
Report from Officer John Thomas with the Elizabethtown Police Department:
This morning shortly before 1AM, Officer Singer with EPD observed a white 2000 Lincoln Town Car attempt to make a turn from West Dixie Avenue onto St John Road. The Vehicle lost control while making the turn and spun sideways across the road before accelerating rapidly with screeching tires and taking off at a high rate of speed. Officer Singer, suspecting the operator of driving under the influence, initiated a pursuit. The Lincoln reached speeds of over 100mph, traveling westbound on St John Road until it reached Ring Road. The Lincoln slowed down as it approached Ring Road, but then ran through the red light and continued on St John Road. Officer Singer lost sight of the vehicle several times as it reached speeds exceeding 100 mph on several occasions. When the Town Car reached the 3500 block of St John Road, the driver lost control and left the roadway, causing the car to roll over several times before coming to a rest on the passenger side. Officer Singer identified the driver as Tony Cloyd, age 27, of Elizabethtown. Cloyd had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on his person, and there were several bottles of Corona beer inside the vehicle with Cloyd. Cloyd was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, and then arrested for DUI 3rd offense., reckless driving, and fleeing and evading 1st degree.
