United Way of Central Kentucky Announces Enhanced Features for Free Online Tax Filing Tool

united way

Elizabethtown, KY – United Way of Central Kentucky today announced a local initiative with MyFreeTaxes.com and H&R Block allowing most filers to complete their taxes in under one hour from the comfort of their home. With new enhanced features, MyFreeTaxes may be utilized by individuals and families earning $66,000 or less in 2017 to complete and file their returns for free.

“I was going to do what most individuals do: pay to file my taxes and put off going to the dentist,” said Gladys, a 30-year-old financial manager. “But then my employer told me about MyFreeTaxes, and that night I logged on.”

Utilizing filing software powered by H&R Block, MyFreeTaxes offers residents a free, safe and easy way to file their state and federal taxes.

“It’s that old thing of it’s just too good to be true, but then I read about the benefits,” said Gladys. “I was shocked at how easy and user-friendly the process was. With the money I saved, I was able to visit the dentist.”

As the only free, online, national tax-filing product offered by a nonprofit, MyFreeTaxes has helped nearly one million individuals like Gladys receive their maximum refund by claiming all eligible tax credits – like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) – saving users across the county $180 million in filing fees. Since 2009, MyFreeTaxes has brought more than $1 billion in refunds back to communities, with 52 local residents saving $9,152 in tax preparation fees and receiving an average refund of $2,267 in the 2017 tax season alone.

How does it work? Simply upload a photo of your W-2 and MyFreeTaxes will automatically fill in your information. The filing software also guarantees that all tax returns are 100% accurate with enhanced features to ensure filers get every dollar they deserve.
