At approximately 4:00 PM on Monday afternoon, two fisherman discovered the deceased body of a teenager under a bridge at the intersection of Western Kentucky Parkway and KY 84.
First to respond to the call was the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, who began immediately processing the scene. The identity was confirmed on Tuesday morning to be 16-year-old Grayson County teen, Savanna Crawford. The family has been notified.
Crawford went missing earlier this year in April. She was last seen leaving her home around 7:10 PM, April 10. Many search parties were deployed and leads investigated, but Crawford was never located until Monday. The teen battled depression after her grandmother passed away in September, friends and family say. Savanna enjoyed taking long walks to cope with her sadness, but those close to her say they don’t believe the location where she was found was somewhere she would go on her own.
Leitchfield Police Chief Kevin Henderson states that they still have many questions surrounding the teen’s death. The preliminary autopsy results showed no physical trauma to Crawford’s body. Police have said that the absence of trauma to the body makes it likely that Savanna neither jumped, nor was pushed from the bridge she was found under. A toxicology report was still pending at the time this information was released.
The body has been sent to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy. Until the cause of death can be determined and more information is obtained, it is unknown whether or not foul play was involved. According to the news release, more information will be communicated as it is confirmed. Three teens have gone missing from the Grayson County area this year, although the sheriff’s office has reported that one has been recently found.
Anyone who has any information in regards to Savanna Crawford’s disappearance or death is asked to contact the Leitchfield Police Department at (270) 259-3850.
