Assault on Police and Resisting Arrest Call

From the Elizabethtown Police Department

Source, Hardin County Detention Center

Sunday Morning, shortly before 1 am, officers responded to the apartment complex on Barnwood Lane in reference to a male subject in the parking lot trying to start a fight. When Officer Chris Smith arrived at the scene, he was told that the instigating male had climbed through an apartment window. Officers made contact with the subject, identified as Kevin Carter, age 23, and he eventually attempted to flee from the apartment down the hallway of the apartment complex. Officer Smith chased Carter and tackled him inside the hallway area. Carter immediately began resisting, eventually striking officer Smith twice in the face with a closed fist. Officer Dustin Lucas arrived on scene, and Carter kicked him in the chest with both feet as he attempted to assist Officer Smith. Officer Lucas attempted to deploy a taser at close range, but it was ineffective, and Carter was able to take the taser away from Officer Lucas, which he then began pointing at Officer Smith. A third officer arrived on scene, and officers were eventually able to retrieve the taser and handcuff Carter. Carter continued kicking officers while he was being handcuffed. Carter was transported to HMH for medical clearance before being lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center. It is believed that Carter was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the offense. Carter has been charged with two counts of Assault 3rd degree against police, disarming a police officer, fleeding and evading 2nd degree, resisting arrest, and failure to notify DOT of change of address.
